Welcome to the Stadium Caelestis
We are children. We take something genius, something that sparks philosophical questions so five-dimensional that we can't comprehend them, and turn them into stories. I'm sure you know what the Tesseract is. In John Whedon's film based on the Marvel comic series Avengers, the Tesseract is Loki's motive--a cubical figure which holds immense power.
In geometry, the tesseract, also known as a cubic prism, looks something like this;
Aside from geometrical figures there is also a table of elements; the largest of these elements we ourselves have created.
In a world beside our own--apart of it, yet not entirely--there exists the element caelesequid. Compounded with hydrogen, caelesequid makes a liquid substance that can power an entire planet; a liquid gold in color and thin in texture; a liquid that bubbles without being heated, as if carbonized. You can drink the golden water of this world and live indefinitely, even.
Yet the creatures on this planet--and there are many, diverse in sentience and function--live in harmony with each other, their precious resource bountiful as the seas on earth. Observing through panes of glass that look out onto our dying sister world as a spectacle, they knew what war and hate can do. We are children, after all, very irresponsible.
But their world was still young and they still had time to prevent the disease that was war from spreading to their own.
The mothers of the world cast a blessing onto the new sentient children of the planet; every generation there would be born individuals with runes of watery gold on the bases of their spines, and they would be blessed with one ability that puts them ahead of their species, unique to the individual and only the individual.
In time all legends become legends, even the origin of sentient-kind...but it was no legend that the runed-children, whose souls had been reincarnated again and again for eras, kept the peace all those years. They came to be called Animi.
